Computer Systems Administration
These pages are mainly about computer related things: scripts, software tidbits, configurations, annoyances - basically reference-able stuff so as not to waste time duplicating effort.
I'm into Linux and FreeBSD administration, networking and security. Recent (depending on your definition) projects have included everything in my projects folder, as well as firewalls for multiple OS's, some FreeBSD administration scripts (some of these are slightly Incredibly old)
GPG/PGP Encryption - Eric R. Thern (2784-bit GPG Key)

Geology, Physics, Isotope Science Research
I used to still collect rocks. But now I torture them with rock crushers, plasma beams and lasers - rather than lining them up in neat labeled rows on a shelf under a UV light.
Currently working towards a Masters Degree in Geology PhD in Physics at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. Extremely tentative title of PhD (even though I'm in my third year): "Microstructural studies on >4300 Ma (million year old) Zircons from Western Australia: constraining the conditions and evolution of the early Earth." Completed Masters in 2005, with a strikingly similar title of: "Investigation of trace-element and U-Th-Pb Isotopic Variation in >4000 Ma Zircons". If you haven't guessed yet, I'm working on zircons from Western Australia that are over 4,300 million years old.
Some (now very ancient, outdated, and in need of deletion) geologically relevant projects still online:
- Mirror of earthquake and seismic displays page at SUNY Potsdam including the earthquake of April 20th, 2002.
- A (not very advanced) mineral gallery archive (based on my own not-very-great pictures of the SUNY Potsdam Geology collection) and the script to create this group of pages.

A currently not-very-orderly directory of projects I have worked on or am working on. Some day I'm going to create webpages per-project and perhaps even sort things and update things. Some of the stuff here is incredibly useful (at least to me) and may be useful to other people as well, but it's hard to sift through, so, like fine wine, I'm letting it age a little.
